For every person there is a story. In mine, I'm the main character. :) Born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah, I have always aspired to be an artist. Gaining inspration from many sources, while growing up I usually had a notebook or something similar and was constantly drawing in it. I gained a love for animation and the heroic action style of comic books and through my earlier years my artwork reflected that. I always considered myself more of a pencil and ink artist until while in high school I learned to air-brush. This turned my attention more toward comercial art and advertising.
My first job as a professional artist was right out of high school. An aquaintance of mine has started a computer animation company and I was able to be hired on as a story board artist. While there I gained exposure to the business world of graphic design and was able to work in a professional production invironment. It was thrilling to be able to design something on paper and have a computer animator bring my images to life. Is was apparent that I needed to move from pencil and paper design to being able to design with a computer. To do this I needed to get some more education.
While in design school I focused on Illustration and Image Manipulation and planned on becoming a print designer until I was given the opportunity to apply for an internship with a local web design company by one of my instructors, who was one of their Art Directors. I received the internship and quickly broadened my skill set and became adept at both print and web design. Upon completion of my internship the company decided to keep me on as a Web Design Specilaist and within a year and a half of my initial internship I was doing the art direction for the whole company.
I currently am doing the art direction for that same company and have learned so much from my opportunities. I have been able to work with clients ranging from the United kingdom to Hawaii and have been able to learn more and do more than some designers that have been doing this for twice as long. For me being a designer is something that has always been a part of me. I can't imagine doing anything else.
